EPD

The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a third-party verification process for assessing the overall environmental footprint of a product. EPDs are available worldwide for specific products from brands such as Dal-Tile, Unilin, Marazzi Group, and Mohawk Group. Mohawk Group, in particular, is one of the few flooring manufacturers that has product-specific EPDs for its domestic LVT products.

USGBC

Indoor air quality certification is central to our product design. Indoor air quality certification for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is designed to ensure that products or materials meet specific standards for VOC emissions, aiming to create a healthier indoor environment. Many of our products contribute to VOC certifications such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and GREENGUARD.

declare.png

Declare.

The International Living Future Institute (ILFI)'s Declare SM program emphasizes transparency in materials. By providing a clear ingredient list for each product, architects and designers can make informed decisions about the environmental impact of their product components. Products such as Mohawk EverStrand, SmartStrand, Air.O carpets, and commercial products from the Mohawk Group, Dal-Tile, GH Commercial, and select Marazzi tile collections proudly display the Declare label.

LPC

ILFI's Living Product Challenge (LPC) certification comprehensively evaluates the entire product lifecycle, from raw material extraction to end-of-use considerations, assessing its environmental and social impact. This certification sets rigorous standards across multiple categories, including material transparency, responsible sourcing, energy and water use, social equity, and overall positive impact on human and ecosystem health. All Mohawk Group EcoFlex™ products are LPC Petal certified, the world's most stringent building product standard.

C2C

The Cradle to Cradle® (C2C) Material Health Certification Program evaluates and certifies products designed and manufactured in accordance with the principles of a circular economy, with a focus on material health, material reuse, renewable energy and carbon management, water management, and social equity. Unilin has Material Health Certification™ in three product lines in the Bronze category and one product line in the Silver category.

ILFI

ILFI's Living Building Challenge Redlist-Free label indicates that the product does not contain certain "Redlist" substances known to be harmful to human health or the environment. Mohawk offers a broad portfolio of Redlist-free products spanning over 500 collections. Furthermore, all Godfrey Hirst eco+ triexta carpets and Godfrey Hirst/HycraU wool carpets are Redlist-free certified. In addition, we prioritize a Redlist-free installation process.

Green Guard

GREENGUARD is an environmental certification developed by UL (Underwriters Laboratories). Its aim is to reduce indoor air pollution and improve the quality of the air we breathe. To receive certification, products must meet stringent standards regarding chemical releases. These standards are among the strictest in the world and are based on extensive scientific research. Only products that meet the most stringent standards and qualify can receive GREENGUARD Gold certification and display the logo on their packaging and websites. This makes it easy for consumers to identify low-emission products that are safe for indoor use.

Commitment to environmental protection

Mohawk is committed to building a future that has a positive impact on the climate.

By implementing decarbonization strategies, we are contributing to solving climate problems.

The strategies to realize that future include robust sustainability governance and efforts to conserve energy in business operations, utilize alternative energy sources, and reduce emissions from transport vehicles.

This initiative is led by our Planet Council, whose mission is to ensure that our business decisions align with our sustainability goals.

Other global segments of flooring received certification for the Science-Based Goals Initiative in 2023.

Over the past decade, we have recycled an average of 6 billion discarded plastic bottles each year to manufacture "Everstrand carpets."

betond

All flooring products are carbon neutral, and an additional 5% carbon offset is provided, allowing us to start at a -5% carbon neutrality.

paris

Mohawk Group is one of approximately 480 companies that have signed the "Climate Pledge," which commits to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, 10 years ahead of the targets set by the Paris Agreement.

Mohawk is a global flooring manufacturer and the only company to have signed and been certified under the Paris Agreement.

Development of environmental protection products

The EcoFlex ONE modular backing system has achieved a significant reduction in carbon emissions.

Carbon emissions were reduced by 64% during the production process of EcoFlex™ ONE.

We use recycled materials from approximately 28 plastic bottles per square meter (making us the world's second-largest recycling company after Coca-Cola), resulting in a recycled material ratio of 80%.

EcoFlex ONE products featuring "Duracolor® Tricor" are made from at least 74 percent recycled materials, helping to reduce plastic waste.
